Microseepage Related Redox Models

چکیده

The study of oxidation-reduction processes in soils began in the 1900’s (Gillespie, 1920) and has since been applied to biological, limnological, and geochemical systems (Bass Becking, 1960). Early petroleum related studies concerned the redox characteristics of sediments, the preservation of organic material, and the ultimate generation of petroleum (Zobell, 1946, Krumbein and Garrels, 1952). Ground water investigations showed that water with hydrocarbon gases are distinguished by low redox potentials (Germanov etal., 1059). Other subsurface studies proposed the use of a redox logging tool (Pirson, 1968). Early near surface oil exploration studies started with the Hilbig Oil Field (Baijal, 1962, Pirson, 1968) and have led to the development of electrode arrays for the in-situ analysis of near surface redox potentials (Thompkins, 1993).

Universal Indicators for Oil and Gas Prospecting Based on Bacterial Communities Shaped by Light-Hydrocarbon Microseepage in China.

Light hydrocarbons accumulated in subsurface soil by long-term microseepage could favor the anomalous growth of indigenous hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms, which could be crucial indicators of underlying petroleum reservoirs. Here, Illumina MiSeq sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene was conducted to determine the bacterial community structures in soil samples collected from three typical oil an...

Study on Oil-gas Reservoir Detecting Methods Using Hyperspectral Remote Sensing

Oil-gas reservoir exploration using hyperspectral remote sensing, which based on the theory of hydrocarbon microseepage information and fine spectral response of target, is a new direction for the application of remote sensing technology. In this paper, Qaidam Basin and Liaodong Bay in China were selected as the study areas. Based on the hydrocarbon microseepage theory, the analysis of crude oi...

Quantitative Structure-Pproperty Relationship Modeling of the Redox Potential for Some Phenolic Antioxidants

In this work, quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) approaches were used to predict the redox potential of 42 phenolic antioxidants. The structures of all compounds optimized by the AM1 semi-empirical method and then a large number of molecular descriptors were calculated for each compound in the data set. Subsequently, stepwise multilinear regression was applied to select the mos...

Geochemical evidences of trace metal anomalies for finding hydrocarbon microseepage in the petroliferous regions of the Tatipaka

The long-term seepage of hydrocarbons, either as macroseepage or microseepage, can set up near-surface oxidation reduction zones that favor the development of a diverse array of chemical and mineralogical changes. The bacterial oxidation of light hydrocarbons can directly or indirectly bring about significant changes in the values of pH and Eh of the surrounding environment, thereby also changi...

Methane Seepage on Mars: Where to Look and Why

Methane on Mars is a topic of special interest because of its potential association with microbial life. The variable detections of methane by the Curiosity rover, orbiters, and terrestrial telescopes, coupled with methane's short lifetime in the martian atmosphere, may imply an active gas source in the planet's subsurface, with migration and surface emission processes similar to those known on...
